from Kari, his foster mommy:

Gus Gus Gus what can I say about this dog: he's amazing. He's approx 12 years old. He was turned in by his owners to be euthanized basically didn't want him anymore he was very sick These people should be on a list to never have animals again.
Anyhow, thanks to Sachi Animal Rescue they rescued him
nursed him back to health and voila he's much better. I've been fostering him for about 5 months now and honestly he's not going anywhere.Gus deserves the best of the best in his golden years! He's calm and submissive and very smart, loves other dogs and cats too. He needed a little training and caught on quickly. I've even trained him not to eat my cats food! I enjoy walking him
through my neighborhood Gus has even helped the kids that live around here some of them were terrified of dogs. I'd explain to them its okay he's Grandpa Gus he can't hurt a fly and the next thing they're petting him with a big smile on their face; this makes my day every time. He's very popular everyone knows him by name and calls out to him when were out on walks. They don't know my name but they sure know Gus (which is perfect for me I really don't want everyone knowing my name, ha!)

Update on GUS:Gus went to see our infamous Dr Galea on Friday for a full check up. He ended up spending the night at the luxurious clinic and went into surgery on saturday morning. We did not spare any expenses for this fantastic little guy.
Chest Xrays are clear, blood panel is perfect, heart is beating just right and ultrasound was good, although he does have an enlarged prostate which is common in senior dogs. Dr Galea does not think this is anything to worry about. He was sedated for removal of the large growth on his palate and in the process was also neutered. Turned out one of his testicles was hard and enlarged so we sent it for biopsy as well as the growth removed from his mouth. Results are pending. Everything went well and our boy woke up at about 1 pm, ready to go. I picked him up along with Mr Wonderful, aka Zakai, who had an introduction scheduled with a wonderful family. Then my little bulldozer, as I like to call Gus, went back to his amazing foster home, and when I say amazing, I mean amazing.... Be aware potential adopters of Gus the Bull that along with a clean bill of health, he will travel with his own journal, that Lisa, his foster mom, keeps updating daily. Any person would be lucky to have such a special boy in their lives. He gets along with Lisa's 2 magnificent boxers, Onyx and Brianna, and loves nothing more than to be inside their lovely home and snooze or snore away. Gus is one of the ultimate combo, bulldog/boxer, check out these pictures... |
The story of GUS, a testimony to the best of what rescues have to offerThis is the story of Gus, a senior boxer dumped at the Seeaca animal shelter by his "caring" owner.
This is also the story of what happens when rescues work together, miracles do follow. Gus was brought by his owner(s) probably because he had reached that ripe old age when he no longer served a purpose or maybe they just got tired of him. It could also have been his medical situation which they could not or would not address. Who knows, who cares? Whatever the reasons I hope these people never get another dog, and hope that if they do have children, never mind the beautiful life lesson they are teaching their kids, I hope that when these people get old and decrepit, their own children will have taken this lesson to heart and will rightfully abandon them because they are no longer productive or worth breathing in this world. Now back to Gus: several dedicated people were involved in his bailout and recovery. I want to thank Shelley and Shana from Take Me Home for evaluating him at the shelter and making us all aware of his very existence. Sachi Animal Rescue which bailed him out and Jackie in particular who had the emotional task of getting him out and transporting a very sick and listless Gus to the vet, not knowing if he would actually make it another day. More than anything I want to thank Christy for being his number one advocate, visiting him while he was recovering, updating us with pictures and Audrey Cox-Ricks from The Boxer Rescue Project for opening her big heart and small bank account (the story of rescues!) and not sparing any expenses to nurse him back to health. Gus was transported by Christy this morning to a fabulous foster home, thank you Lisa for opening your heart and home to this magical boy. Gus came out jogging from the vet, with quite a swagger in his step, he knew he was moving on to bigger and better things. He spent yesterday at the spa, getting pampered and cleaned, and given a clean bill of health. He has nicely recovered from his major case of kennel cough and is getting medication for his eye. The big "hernia" on his behind everybody was so concerned about turned out to be nothing at all: it does not affect him in any way and he probably has had this forever. The vet estimates it was a case of a tail cropped too close and muscles settling in (please excuse my medical expertise!). Anyway, Gus is fine and just met two beautiful boxers who welcomed him into their home. Christy left him playing with his new friends, roaming a gigantic backyard and looking forward to some major TLC from Lisa, who in Christy's words, is the kind of boxer owner we should all be so lucky to find for our orphans. Finally a big thank you to Tracy from Chico Boxer Rescue who did not hesitate to open her home to Gus and I am sure is looking forward to welcoming this special boy into her life.
