WHISKEY in his foster home
This is what his new people are saying:
"It has only been 2 weeks since Whiskey arrived, and he is certainly starting to settle in. We bought him a big new crate, which he goes into by himself when he hears the food being prepared. He is also proving to be quite clever by using his puzzle solving skills to escape from his crate a few times. However (and for the time being) the humans seem to currently have the advantage as we were able to devise a system (after 5 attempts) to which he has been unable to escape...unless he figures out a way to pick a lock or use a rope and hook to get at the keys hanging nearby. He is also very good at ever so delicately using one toenail (I'm not kidding) to assist in opening any door that has been left ever so slightly ajar. His ability to follow commands have improved steadily and we are working on wearing down that Boxer stubborness, you know the one, when they pretend not to hear "sit". But again he is just beginning to learn who is supposed to be the pack leader, so I'm sure this will continue to improve. Whiskey is getting along well with his foster brother, Monchis. But he really loves to chase the frisbee and play tug-of-war with the humans. He is extremely protective of us with strangers when we are out walking and of the house when he hears a knock or noise, but this too is a behavior I think we can reduce by showing him that it is the human's job to protect him and that he just needs to relax and enjoy life. Well, as they say, "So far, so good." Hopefully this foster situation will turn into a permanent one as Whiskey has been so easy to love! Jose and Dan"

Thank you Dan and Jose for your patience and understanding with little Whiskey Bear. Your commitment to making it work is absolutely remarkable. You are true rescuers in every sense of the term. Whiskey had never known the joy life can offer to a pup. He was 11 months old when he was placed behind bars at a local rescue and spent the better part of his youth there, until he was relinquished to Sachi Animal Rescue and transferred to the ranch facility. Despite never having his own human to cherish and love, he was always the clown of the bunch there, bringing laughter and fun to our volunteers with his shenanigans. Kissing and licking could go on forever with Mr Whiskey.
I can only imagine what must be going through Whiskey's mind right now (sorry Dan, I have to do this!): "Did I just enter doggie paradise or what? Toys galore, a brother to play with (when he feels like it) and my very own two humans who adore me in spite of the few occasions I clearly misbehaved... They are actually willing to let this thing play out and give me the chance to become the dog they know I can be...Truly amazing, because the humans who get that a dog like me will act out a bit at first and still stick with me are pretty rare. Usually they give up and return me within 2 or 3 days. HMMMMM maybe they have figured out that under all the Whiskey bravado lies a heart of gold... my secret is out!"
Dan and Jose, I am so glad and thankful our paths have crossed. Raphaele

WHISKEY

I’ll come clean here. Whiskey happens to be my personal fave of all the SAR superstars. He’s a young playful Boxer mix who was returned from his former home for being overly protective. This is a problem that can be easily addressed and managed with guidance from our expert trainers.
Besides Whiskey’s intoxicating looks he’s also very smart, playful and extremely loyal.
Oh yeah, he’s also obedience trained (15 commands on leash).
He is also good with other dogs and would actually love to find a home with another active 4-legged canine companion with whom he can play endlessly. Hint, hint: His BFF at the ranch is no other than Mr. Foxworthy. These two will entertain each other for hours.
So here’s to Whiskey. May today be his last day ever spent in a kennel.
