update by Gus' foster parents:Thank you for the opportunity to be a foster home for Gus III. He is doing very well his first week at the ranch. He started off anxious, couldn’t sit still or focus for the first two days...he is like a bouncy puppy at times, always ready to play with a short attention span. In fact, he might be a bit younger than we thought...perhaps closer to 7 years with some premature grey. As the days progress he is becoming more and more calm and focused...and as soon as the lights go out at night, he is fast asleep. In fact he is napping outside of his crate as I type this...just a light snore, very cute. :] |
Gus loves his Senior Sister, Bella Mia (9 years old), and can’t stop giving her kisses...she is a very patient girl and allows the love. He is getting to know the cats, Puccini and Baci...he is curious and interested but not aggressive (not a high prey boy). He had his first up-close and personal sniff of Baci today...a little excitement as she walked away and then put his attention back on Bella. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, just a big loveable lug! His introduction is already better than Bella’s initial meeting of the cats...and now she eats side-by-side and plays with Baci...so it just takes some time for everyone to feel safe.
The three of us took a walk this morning, and his leash manners were great! He walked along side Bella sniffing and marking everything as we moved along. It doesn’t take long to wear out two seniors! The walk back to the house was slow and unrushed.
His stitches look good...no redness, swelling, pulling or seepage. No “cone of shame” required since he doesn’t bother them...making everyone much happier. We are working on crate training...which he loves since he gets a big treat every time he goes in and thresholds (to stop and wait for an invitation to come in or go out of the doors right now . He is also getting to know the invisible boundary to the kitchen...our kids are not allowed into the kitchen area...cats included. He is VERY food and praise motivated so he is learning quickly. Working out of the house this week is helping him to relax and rest, allowing his body to heal and perhaps gain a
couple pounds so his little backbone isn’t sticking up. Next week, we will be at the office everyday with Bella, with a new environment to get to know. That’s the Gus skinny for now...more to come soon!
Cheers!

update on GUS III(by Stacy): I met with Sara and Kristy today and with tears of joy, they are fostering Gus!! I received a text from Sara saying she was home all week and knew that I wanted to give Gus some more time to recover from his surgery, but that she was able to keep him quiet and give him 24/7 care and could keep him separate from her cats if necessary. I was going to bring Gus here, with open arms because I am in love with him also, and test him with my cat and my dogs. When Kendyl and I picked him up, he looked great. The vet that has taken care of him and Sadie is fabulous!! They all loved Gus! We took our
time to make sure it all worked out with their beautiful boxer, Bella and the cats. He did well with the cats, we don't think he |
has ever seen them before. He didn't have any prey drive. I had tears of joy that they were giving Gus such a great home! They
have a huge yard and he will get lots of love!! Sara is just fabulous! She knows boxers and dogs very well! Thank you so much for saving such a fabulous senior as Gus! I have already received an update from Sara. He is doing well and he finally laid down to take a nap. He had dinner and his meds and it takes him a bit to wind down. I think he will wind down and calm down once he knows he
is there for a while and can relax. I will forward the updates from Sara also. I cannot tell you how happy Kendyl and I are to have been able to help in his rescue and placement in his foster!! I should get the pathology results around Tuesday and will update those as well. Keep in mind, if they are not good, I will be typing through tears, so it might have typos!

update on GUS III
(by Stacy): I spoke to Sara and I will perform the home check on Saturday. She sounds so great! Gus had his surgery last night and it went fairly late, so I talked to the vet this morning. He is doing very well! He is giving him fluids as well as continuing the anitibiotics. He removed the mammory mass and had to remove the nipple as well. The tumor on his left buttocks, has caused him more concern than expected, it did not look good, so it was sent for pathology as well. The hyperplasia was very bad in the rear teeth, the vet said hard as a rock. He is on strong pain meds to keep him comfortable. He will be coming home with me! I will take care of him until we confirm how he is with dogs and my cat. If all works out with the home check and animals, I will make
arrangements to meet Sara a week from Saturday to foster Gus. I can pick him up on Friday or Saturday morning. The doctor wants to make sure that he is eating ok.

GUS IIIGus III was circled on FACEBOOK, he had pledges but nobody was able to take on a senior Boxer. We could not let them end his precious life at the shelter and
pulled him today. He will have to see our vet first for medical evaluation. More as soon as he recovers from the trauma of being dumped by his family. Please stay tuned |
